Perplexity Launches Internal Knowledge Search to Enhance Enterprise Efficiency
Perplexity has unveiled a game-changing feature for its Pro and Enterprise Pro users: the Internal Knowledge Search. This new tool allows enterprises to effortlessly search through their internal documents while simultaneously accessing the wealth of information available on the internet. By creating a unified platform for both sources of knowledge, Perplexity aims to significantly streamline enterprise operations.
Unlike traditional methods, where research often requires the use of separate tools for online and internal document searches, the Internal Knowledge Search consolidates both functionalities, enabling users to find valuable insights more efficiently. However, the feature comes with parameters; users can only search through files they’ve uploaded themselves, ensuring that only critical and valuable data is included in the search process.
Frank te Pas, head of Enterprise product at Perplexity, noted in a recent interview with VentureBeat that this approach is designed to prioritize quality over quantity. “We believe this lets people bring only their most important and valuable data to the table,” he explained, emphasizing that users can bypass the typical overwhelming volume of low-value files that often clutter internal databases.
Each Enterprise Pro user is allowed to upload a maximum of 500 files, though there is potential for that limit to increase in the future. The platform supports a variety of document formats, including Excel sheets, Word documents, and PDFs, making it versatile for different business needs. Perplexity’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, highlighted the productivity gains that come from having an integrated research tool that combines both internal and external data sources.
The Internal Knowledge Search is already being tested by prominent companies like Nvidia, Databricks, and Dell. Early adopters have used the feature for various tasks, from conducting due diligence to enhancing proposal requests by merging past sales materials with the latest insights.
In addition to the Internal Knowledge Search, Perplexity has introduced a collaborative feature known as "Spaces." This platform allows teams to share files and customize their AI assistant with instructions tailored to their specific data requirements. Privacy is a major focus for Perplexity as Spaces ensures that all files and searches are excluded from AI quality training by default, requiring Pro customers to opt-out if desired.
Furthermore, Perplexity is set to enhance its functionality by integrating third-party data sources like Crunchbase and FactSet within the Spaces feature. This integration will allow users to expand their research capabilities across public and proprietary datasets.
As the landscape for enterprise search solutions evolves, Perplexity continues to innovate, aiming to carve out a niche in the increasingly competitive arena of retrieval augmented generation (RAG) systems. Te Pas explained that the company’s approach to RAG is tailored to utilize users’ uploaded documents as a foundational database for searches, allowing users to retrieve critical answers quickly.
With the rise of alternatives like Glean and Elastic, which have offered RAG platforms for some time, Perplexity is poised to compete aggressively in the sector. Recent analytics indicate that Perplexity is gradually attracting more users from traditional search engines like Google, further establishing its presence in the enterprise search market.
In summary, Perplexity’s Internal Knowledge Search and corresponding features represent a significant advancement in how companies can manage and utilize their diverse information sources. By fostering an environment of efficient knowledge retrieval and collaboration, Perplexity reinforces its commitment to driving productivity within enterprises.
